Characters
The book is about Karana, but also has brief appearances from Ramo, and Rontu, and Tutok.
- Karana is a young girl, and the main character in the book.
- Ramo is Karana’s younger brother, whom she jumps of the evacuation ship for because he was left behind, only to later have Ramo killed by wild dogs.
- Rontu is the wild dogs’ pack leader. Karana nurses him back to health later in the book, and he becomes her companion.
- Tutok is an Aleut girl (Aleuts are Karana’s enemies) who Karana runs into near her house. She doesn’t attack her and later becomes her friend.
